Research protocols
The first year’s data collection consists of four parts, each with their own research protocol:
1) Location research protocol
2) Habitat mapping research protocol
3) Ecological survey of seagrass and invertebrates in seagrass and unvegetated areas research protocol
4) Gleaning landing research protocol
The data collection is open until the end of 2019.
1) Location research protocol
(updated 20181106)
Information about your location, a lengthy questionnaire about the social and environmental conditions of your location, this can be filled in at any time before November 2019, and can be completed in sections. This protocol may require some fieldwork that can be done in combination with the other research protocols. The link below contains more information to help to guide you to your location choice.
Access the location survey form “IPSN Location Survey (2018/2019) here (Google forms):

If you would like to get an overview of all the questions in the Location form, we have gathered all the questions in one PDF for your convenience. All data must be submitted via the google form. Please download it here:

2) Habitat mapping research protocol
Gathering GPS coordinates for all habitats present in the seascape at your location. This data aimed to be used to produce a habitat map for your location to be used in subsequent years (field work). For more information read the research protocol.

3) Ecological survey of seagrass and invertebrates research protocol
Collecting ecological data along three transects at two sites (seagrass + unvegetated) to understand invertebrate productivity and the seagrass community (field work). For more information read the research protocol.

4) Gleaning landing research protocol

The app to collect data (ODK Collect)
(updated 20191105)
The data collection is easiest to collect via the app ODK Collect. But it is also possible to record the data on paper and submit the data later via a computer (but it will be a bit more time consuming).
To download the app to your Android device click here.
Please find instructions here on how to install and use ODK Collect here: How to install and use ODK Collect 20190208
NOTE. We are not using GeoODK as initially planned and also demonstrated during the workshops in Malaysia and Singapore. The reason for this is that ODK Collect has made some impressive developments lately and will be the better choice for the future. For the user, it works very similar to GeoODK. Research Protocols
